Founder and Director

Claire Donnellan is a nurse, health psychologist and neuroscientist with more than 30 years’ experience in ageing, brain health and health systems innovation. She has worked across Ireland, the UK, the Middle East and Australia, leading academic programmes in nursing, behavioural science and neuroscience for medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and interprofessional students.
As Founder and Executive Director of New Generation Ageing (NewGenAge), Claire helps universities, health services, governments and corporates design age‑inclusive, psychologically safe systems of care and work. Her work integrates gerontology, neuropsychology, health policy and implementation science to address the realities of multimorbidity, cognitive change and complexity in later life.
A highly cited researcher, Claire’s Google Scholar h‑index of 32 reflects a 15‑year portfolio spanning stroke, neurodegeneration, mental health, dysphagia, health literacy and gerontological care. Her work has appeared in leading journals such as Brain, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, Health Policy and International Journal of Nursing Studies, and she has secured over A$20.5M in competitive funding across Ireland, the UK and Australia.
Claire is a member of the Global Observatory on Long‑Term Care and a recognised leader in academic governance and health professions education. She has supervised more than 50 research theses, led specialist gerontological nursing programmes, and held executive roles in Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences, with a consistent focus on quality, safety and workforce development in ageing services.
